The United Naga Council (UNC) on Thursday wrote a missive to Amit Shah, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Government of India for urgent intervention for release of 6 Naga hostages held by Kuki National Front-P (KNF-P) and Leilon Vaiphei Village.
The missive states that “[W]ith due respect, the United Naga Council seeks your personal intervention for the immediate release of the 6 Naga hostages held by the KNF-P and Leilon Vaiphei village, to de-escalate the grave and rapidly worsening situation in the state.
“It is an established fact, corroborated by eye witnesses present at the scene, that the remaining 6 Naga hostages including two Pastors are still in Kuki custody. The abduction of 18 innocent Naga civilians, including men, women, and married couples, and taken hostage in broad daylight occurred at Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026 at around 10:30-10:50 AM. 12 women and baby child hostages were subsequently released on 15 May 2026.
“Further, information culled from reliable sources indicates that the 6 Naga hostages may have been done away with in the custody of the KNF-P. The indecisiveness and inaction of the Government of Manipur has unduly delayed resolution of this matter. This has raised serious concern among the general public as to why the state machinery and Central Forces has remained ineffective. Questions are being raised whether this failure is attributed to the interference by Mrs. Nemcha Kipgen wife of the supremo of KNF-P, Mr. Thangboi Kipgen who holds the Deputy Chief Minister post of the state.
“The Naga people, therefore, urge your good office to intervene for handing over the Naga hostages, dead or alive, without further delay.
“In light of the above facts and the explosive nature of the situation, we request your able leadership to take urgent cognizance of this matter and ensure the immediate resolution of the hostage crisis” stated the missive signed by Ng. Lorho, President UNC and Vareiyo Shatsang, General Secretary UNC, which was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati District, Manipur.
