The Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Losii Dikho and Chairman of Hill Areas Committee, D. Gangmei have condemned the killing of two Naga civilians on 18 April 2026 along National Highway 202, near TM Kasom, Ukhrul District, Manipur.

The statement issued by the Deputy CM Losii Dikho reads, “I am profoundly outraged by the barbaric killing of two innocent civilians and the grievous injuries sustained by several others yesterday at TM Kasom village, Ukhrul district. I condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms.

“It is heart-wrenching that this atrocity occurred just twelve hours after I visited the Ukhrul district with the Hon’ble Chief Minister. Having witnessed the people’s genuine desire for peace, normalcy and progress, this calculated brutality is a bitter betrayal of the thirst and hope of every peace-loving citizen. This is a desperate attempt to derail the popular government, but the resolve of our government and the will of the people will prevail.

“We will not rest until those responsible are booked under the law of the land. Our commitment to protecting every life remains steadfast, and we will double our efforts to safeguard the peace we have worked so hard to restore.

“My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the bereaved families. I share your grief and stand in total solidarity with the community at large. I earnestly appeal to the citizens of Ukhrul District and the people of Manipur to maintain calm and restraint. We must stand united to reject this culture of violence and prove that our spirit of brotherhood is far stronger than the hatred of those who seek to tear us apart” added the statement of Deputy CM Losii Dikho.

Chairman of HAC, D. Gangmei stated in his social media post “I unequivocally condemn the heinous and inhumane killing of two innocent civilians near Yaolen Kuki Village on Saturday afternoon around 2:30 PM. The victims, identified as Chinaoshang Shokwungnao (45) of Tashar Village and Yaruingam Vashum (42) of Kharasom CC Village, were travelling from Imphal to Ukhrul under security escort when this tragic incident took place.

“Such terror acts of violence against unarmed civilians are deplorable and cannot be justified under any circumstances. Those terrorist must face the same intensity of response. They not only take away precious lives but also spread fear, destabilize communities, and deepen the collective grief of our society.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. In this hour of immense sorrow, I pray they find the strength, courage, and solace needed to bear this profound loss.”

The postmortem of the two deceased was conducted by the Forensic Team from Imphal at 11:50PM of 18 April 2026 and completed at around 12:50AM of 19 April 2026.
