The Media Cell, Naga Village Guards (NVG) Central Command in its statement on the incident that took place in the early hours of Friday near Sinakathei has expressed that “the Naga Village Guards (NVG), Central Command, strongly condemns and takes serious exception to the ambush carried out against the NVGs under Eastern Command by Kuki Armed Cadres under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact near Sinakeithei village under Ukhrul District in the early hours of Friday, which resulted in the dead of our comrade Horshokmi Jamang, aged 29, son of Lungshim Jamang of Chatric Khullen village, Kamjong District.
“At dawn this morning, a section of NVGs stationed at Sirarakhong village was on a patrol duty following repeated attacks on Sinakeithei village and reports of constant tactical movement in the peripheries by the Kuki Armed Cadres under SoO agreement with the Government of India, when the ambush took place.
“Horshokmi Jamang, a man of valour and devoted patriotic Naga, laid down his life defending his rightful ancestral land. His sacrifice will not go in vain. The NVG Central Command deeply condoles the passing of our beloved comrade and prayed to the Almighty God to give strength and solace to the bereaved family. Horshokmi Jamang is survived by a young wife and a child of 10 months.
“In this moment of a grave challenge facing our nation, the NVG Central Command hereby reiterate and solemnly declares our commitment in defending our land and identity without any compromise. It is also our resolute stand that we will never retreat and surrender to our adversaries until the flag of victory is hoisted in every hilltop of our motherland.
The statement further continues that “the NVG Central Command, while considering the seriousness of the developing situation, makes this earnest appeal to all the brave Naga youths across the globe to come forward and join this noble fight to defend our land, identity and people. Our dear countrymen, it is now or never.”
The three injured have been identified as Shon Mahung age 36 of Hungpung – bullet injury on the buttock and thigh, Ramshang age 32 of Nambisha – bullet injury on the jaw bone and Woreingam age 26 of Kalhang- bullet injury on the back of the upper neck. The dead body and the three injured have been brought to District Hospital Ukhrul.
