The Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul with urgency and clarity has raised concern and stated -Who is imposing war on whom?
The press statement issued by the Department of Information and Media of Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul stated that “the unfolding situation in Ukhrul and surrounding areas exposes a disturbing pattern in the conduct of Tangkhul Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). From the very beginning of the unrest, their silence-followed by calculated accusations against Kuki Suspension of Operations (SoO) cadres-has served as a convenient diversion from the ground reality: the ongoing violence allegedly perpetrated by NSCN(EF) cadres against innocent Kuki civilians.
“Every act of self-defense by Kuki villagers has been systematically misrepresented as aggression. This narrative, amplified through sections of the media with the combined influence of Tangkhul and Meitei groups, has dangerously distorted the truth and emboldened further violence.
“The conduct of Tangkhul CSO leaders reflects a repeated pattern of “Act and blame others.” On one hand, Tangkhuls on the ground obstruct lawful operations of central security forces. On the other, their leaders publicly accuse these same forces of partiality and inefficiency. While militant elements are allowed a free hand to unleash violence, appeals are simultaneously made to the Government for intervention. This contradiction raises serious questions about intent and accountability these Tangkhul CSOs.
“On 23rd April, the Working Committee of TNL (Tangkhul Naga Long) and the Central Command of the Naga Village Guard issued press releases demanding the flushing out of Kuki SoO cadres and calling upon all Naga commands-Eastern, Western, Northern, and Southern-to remain prepared for any eventuality. These statements cannot be viewed in isolation from the events that followed.
“In direct contradiction to these appeals by the Tangkhul CSOs, coordinated and premeditated attacks were launched by their militants the following day(24/04/26) on multiple Kuki villages:
“At approximately 5:30 A.M., Mulam village came under attack, with houses set ablaze and heavy gunfire injuring at least six innocent civilians, including women.
“The assault escalated towards Shongphel and along the MTP route, in a deliberate attempt to intrude into Mongkot Chepu and nearby Kuki villages.
“At around 10:00 A.M., Mongkot Chepu was attacked from Lilen Ridge, where high-velocity gunfire targeted civilians, including two individuals riding a scooter towards Mongkot Chepu.
“These were not isolated incidents-they reflect a coordinated and calculated offensive against vulnerable civilian populations.
*The question must now be asked with urgency and clarity: Who is imposing war on whom?
“It is imperative that Government agencies act immediately, decisively, and impartially. The lives of Kuki civilians must be treated with equal value and urgency. The continued failure to ensure their protection risks further escalation and irreversible loss.
“Thousands of innocent lives are at stake at this very moment.Every second counts” added the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media of Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul
