The Kuki Students’ Organisation-Ukhrul (KSO-U) strongly condemns the recent press release issued by the Working Committee TNL on 30th April, 2026, which has irresponsibly and misleadingly mentioned the name of our Vice President (Administration), Miss Mercy Khongsai.
The press release of KSO Ukhrul stated that “the claim made by the Working Committee-TNL that Miss Khongsai was provided protection and escorted into Mulam by security forces is entirely baseless and a gross misrepresentation of facts. In reality, Miss Khongsai, along with her KSO team, was enroute to Mulam in a private vehicle as part of a humanitarian mission following the brutal pre-dawn attack on the village on 24 April 2026 which left two volunteers dead, nine civilians injured (including women and children), and sixteen houses burnt.
“Her visit was driven solely by a sense of duty and compassion-to assess the situation on the ground, extend solidarity, and check on the welfare of the affected villagers. At this critical time, humanitarian efforts should be respected and supported, not distorted for ulterior motives.
“It must be clearly stated that Miss Khongsai and her team, despite active cross-firing, braved flying bullets to reach the affected villagers. The simultaneous movement of BSF and police along the same route was purely coincidental. Neither Miss Khongsai nor KSO-U sought or requested any security escorts on that day. Even otherwise, the involvement of security forces in ensuring safe passage in conflict situations is not unusual, as has been witnessed earlier when members of the Tangkhul community were escorted back and forth between Litan Sareikhong and Mahadev countless times during this ongoing unrest.
“KSO-U is deeply appalled by the deliberate and unnecessary targeting of Miss Khongsai in the Working Committee-TNL’s statement. This act not only undermines her sincere efforts toward peacebuilding and humanitarian service but also raises serious concerns about her safety. It is particularly troubling as this is not the first instance where she has been singled out for her consistent advocacy for affected communities, irrespective of ethnic or social divisions. Earlier too, Khanuithot Khon attempted to defame her through their official Instagram handle & FB page, further contributing to a pattern of targeted misinformation against her.
“KSO-U urges the Working Committee-TNL to immediately retract their statement and refrain from spreading misinformation that may endanger individuals working selflessly on the ground. We also call upon all concerned parties to act responsibly and prioritize truth, peace, and the safety of those contributing to humanitarian causes.
“KSO-U remains committed to its mission of promoting peace, unity, and justice, and will continue to stand firmly against any attempts to intimidate or malign its executive members” added the statement issued by Department of Media, KSO-Ukhrul District
