Lungter Kaphung is a reserved forest of Sinakeithei Village and it is about 2km from their settlement.

Villagers alleged that armed Kuki militants, travelling in white Bolero vehicle, were the one who started setting the fire at Lungter Kaphung at Sinakeithei Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur on Monday, the 23rd February 2026.

As per reports received from the villagers “at around 10:00am, an armed Kuki militant intercepted a few villagers of Sinakeithei who had gone to attend their fields towards Lungter Kaphung, Sinakeithei. On seeing the armed militant in full gear and out of fear, some of the farmers ran towards the jungle but one was caught and taken to their camp for interrogation. He was reprimanded for crossing the river and attempting to go to the field. It is reported that the Headman and Secretary of Leplan Village also came to the camp and reprimanded the same. Later, the farmer was safely dropped near Sinakeithei area.

There was a report of blank fire by the Kuki militant along the stretch of Sinakeithei – Saikul road because some of the villagers did not stop but ran towards their village for safety.

Later in the afternoon, a forest fire broke out at Lungter Kaphung of Sinakeithei. It is reported that the villagers attending to their field witnessed the Kuki militant traveling in white Bolero setting the forest on fire.

So far there is no report of human casualty or loss of properties while filling this report.

The presence of Kuki militants is not a new thing in the area and the villagers are apprehensive of their movement especially while attending to their fields.
