The Tangkhul CSOs on Saturday organised a Candlelight Vigil at Town Hall, Ukhrul in honour of the 8 Naga civilians – Pr. Kenpibou, Rev. Manu, Phenrongwibou, Phenrilungbou, Dilip, Kaliwangbou, Wilson Thanga and Chunjanglung Panmei – who were brutally murdered by Kuki militants.

Reverend Somi Kasomwoshi, Pastor of Hunphun Baptist Church said the solidarity prayer for the deceased and their families and for the Naga nation and led the gathering in lighting the candles.

President of Tangkhul Naga Long, Sword Vashum in his speech calls for unity among the Naga brethren. “Let us unite our thoughts and minds; and with gratitude, let us come before God, admit our mistakes and pray for His guidance to lead us to victory. Let us make the right decision for our onward journey.

“God has chosen the fallen heroes to be Liangmai Nagas. They dreamt of living a dignified life but their lives were cut short by our adversaries. Their innocent lives were taken away by those people whose lives and minds were controlled by the devil. I am not cursing them, but as a Christian, I believe God will surely answer them according to their actions. No one can escape the judgement day.

“We don’t regret releasing the Kuki detainees because that is the will of God and that is the way of a civilized society and the rule of law.

“Let their sacrifice bring the Tangkhul community closer in particular, and the Nagas in general. May their sacrifice pave a path for a stronger Naga in the coming days” stated Sword Vashum.

Young and old joined the candlelight vigil and paid their respect to the 8 departed souls. Thotchuingam Kasar, General Secretary of Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long, on behalf of Tangkhul CSOs expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the candlelight vigil programme.
