The felicitation celebrates not only an individual’s achievement but also the extraordinary artistic talent, creativity and resilience of Northeast India. At a time when news from Manipur and the wider Northeast is frequently overshadowed by conflict and uncertainty, Ms. Makunga’s recognition offers a heartening reminder of the region’s immense creative potential and the possibilities that emerge when talent is nurtured and given opportunities to flourish.
Ms. Makunga was recognised for mentoring young participants, encouraging artistic expression and strengthening their musical abilities through her work at the festival. Viewing God as her source of guidance and strength, she hopes to remain true to her gifts, continue working with dedication and trust that the right opportunities will unfold in time. Her aspiration is to use music not only as a means of artistic expression but also as a way to encourage others, nurture young talent and make a positive contribution to society.
The ceremony underscored the role of music, art and dance in fostering friendship, mutual understanding and harmony among nations. It also highlighted how artistic expression can transcend geographical and cultural boundaries, creating opportunities for people to share their stories, appreciate their differences and discover common ground.
Through initiatives such as these, TAAF India continues to nurture and showcase artistic talent, strengthen India’s cultural presence globally and expand opportunities for artists, particularly those from the Northeast, to make their mark on the international stage.
