Ukhrul Observes One Day Genna In Collective Mourning

In support of the “One Day Genna” called by the United Naga Council in all the Naga areas, the District Headquarters of Ukhrul wears a deserted look.

As a mark of solidarity and collective mourning to the fallen Naga brothers, all the vehicular movement, shops and business establishments, government offices, and private and government institutions in the District Headquarters of Ukhrul remain closed.

In view of the grave circumstance today, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has declared a 12-hour “Genna” with effect from 6.00AM of Friday, the 28th of August 2026. As per the TNL social prohibition, the public were advised to stay at home and refrain from going to the fields and any other related activities.

The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) had expressed “deep shock beyond measure on the tragic and gruesome killing of four (4) Nagas and injuring one (1) person by the Kuki militants along the IT Road in Kangpokpi at around 8.30AM on the 27th of August 2026.”

“In a most despicable manner today, the cold-blooded ambush between Makui Asang and Thanamba Naga village along the IT Road was carried out against the innocent Naga civilians by the Kuki militants and Narco-Terrorists pertaining to the Kuki National Front-Presidential and Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) under the command of Jangboi Kipgen, Home Secretary of KNF/UPF. These Kuki militant groups are both under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government of India.”

“Ever since the abduction of the 18 innocent Nagas and subsequent brutal murder of six of them at Leilon Vaiphei village on the 13th of May 2026, the Liangmai Nagas have been under the relentless and targeted attacks of the Kuki militants. The unfolding situation raises serious questions over how the responsible governments and its security agencies are making approaches to the current imbroglio of Kuki’s offensive against the Nagas. Ironically, while our brethren Nagas are bleeding in the hands of the marauder Kukis, the Indian Security Forces have been mercilessly launching a combing operation and torturing the Liangmai villagers.

“The Tangkhul Naga community has been constrained to deduce that the present BJP-led ministry at Imphal and New Delhi has exhibited indicative overtures of being biased and partisan in favour of the illegal migrant Kukis in the prevailing situation in the hills of Manipur. While the Naga leaders and villagers have been put under random arrest and tortured in different forms in the hands of the government agencies, the murderous Kukis are being given free hand in carrying out their terror activities” stated the press release issued by the Media Cell, Working Committee, TNL.

The deceased Liangmai Nagas have been identified as:

1. Wisobou Charenamai Chairman, Chawangkining Village Authority and Former Vice President, Liangmai Naga Council (LNC),

2. Tadsongbou Ringkangmai Founder and Principal, Right Path School, T. Khullen, and presently Assembly Speaker of the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur.

3. Mariakdibou Wijunamai- Executive Member, Makui Youth Club,

4. Anil Wijunamai – Executive Member, Makui Youth Club,

5. Gaikamang Ringkangmai-critically injured,

6. Japou MK-Student Leader, Thonglang Akutpa, who miraculously escaped the tragedy
