Pettigrew College: Cultural Day cum Literary Meet

The Pettigrew College, Ukhrul organised a Cultural Day cum Literary Meet on Thursday at the Multi Purpose Hall of Pettigrew College.

Celebrated under the theme “Young Minds, Timeless Traditions”, the programme was attended by Ramreichan Keishing, President of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong as Guest of Honour.

The special guests include Kaphungchui Shokwungnao, President of ZTKL, Shankhui Raikhan, President of SANSA, Khanso Nakhedei, President of ZTL, Paomi Khaveishang, President of RKL, Yarchuiso Kashung, President of TAKL and Thotdharrin Shingnaisui, President of HKL.

Speaking at the occasion, Ramreichan Keishing stated that “TKS is for the welfare of the students. The door of TKS is always open for improvement and growth of the students. Our traditional attire is colourful and beautiful. We must preserve and promote it with dignity, modesty and morality.”

He further added “we must excel in everything, especially in our studies. We should prepare ourselves to compete with the rest of the world. On this literary day, it is a wake up call for everyone to be more serious in our mother tongue (Tangkhul language). At the same time let us endeavour to better our proficiency in English.”

In the competitive categories, Themyachon Kasar and S Khanim shared the first position in the debate competition on the topic “Graduating within Ukhrul provides better prospects than graduating beyond Ukhrul”. KAS Philaton and Agnes Chahongnao Shimray secured the second and third positions respectively.

In the “Lungchan Laa” competition, WS Worthem and Mathingmi Raleng was declared the winner. The second position was awarded to Rinvami Woleng and Rinshimla Zingkhai and the third position goes to Tharchai Khansu and Mathuimi Kasar.

In the Poetry Slam competition under the topic ‘Change”, Worchuirin Ahum was declared the winner. Shanganing Machinao and Songarin Kashak were declared the second and third position winners respectively.

Ngamreiso W Shimray was declared the winner in the Monologue Competition under the topic “A Small Town, Waiting for Power, Waiting for Water, Waiting To Be Seen”. Thureiwon Rumthao and S Sita Devi were declared the second and third position holders respectively.

In the Fusion Fiesta, the Yellow House emerged as a winner. The second and third place respectively, went to the Blue House and the Green House.

In the Handicraft Competition (Boys), the first position goes to Thingreingam Vanyuin Bou. Khansoya PS and Tharsem Keishing were declared the second and third winners respectively.

In the Handicraft Competition (Girls), Chingmirin Ningshen was declared the winner whereas Shangmiwon Khayi and Chonminao Angkang were declared the second and third runners up respectively.

The programme is being held as part of the ongoing College Sports Week and will wind up on 6 March 2026.
