Zingsho Katamnao Long Condemns Cross-border Armed Aggression

The Zingsho Katamnao Long (Eastern Tangkhul Student Union of Manipur) asserted that the Central Government and the Government of Manipur are fully responsible for the prevailing sense of insecurity along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The Zingsho Katamnao Long (Eastern Tangkhul Students’ Union) strongly condemns the barbaric cross-border armed aggression carried out by the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) in collusion with the Myanmar-based Peoples’ Defence Force (PDF) on the peaceful Tangkhul Naga villages of Choro, Wanglee, and Namlee under Kamjong district in the early hours of 7th May 2026.

The press release of Zingsho Katamnao Long stated “we are shocked and outraged that heavily armed foreign militants brazenly violated the Naga territory, launched drone bombings, set more than 15 houses ablaze, looted properties, fired indiscriminately upon civilians, and subjected villagers to physical torture. The attacks left innocent civilians injured – including a woman shot in the left thigh rendered scores of families homeless, and forced women and children to flee into the jungle for safety, with several persons still reported missing. These heinous acts constitute a direct assault on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nagas.

“It is deeply disturbing that this coordinated attack occurred in close proximity to Assam Rifles outposts, including the one stationed between Choro and Aloyo. The reported inaction of the security forces present in the vicinity, the prior visit by Assam Rifles personnel to the villages just a day before the attack, and the subsequent arrest of a Naga Village Guard member instead of providing protection to the affected villagers have raised serious questions that demand immediate answers from the concerned authorities.

“For years, the border villages inhabited by Tangkhul Naga communities have extended humanitarian support by providing food and shelter to hundreds of Myanmar civilians fleeing the conflict in their country. In return, they have now rewarded our brethrens with violence and destruction on Indian soil. This cannot be tolerated.

“We hold the Central Government and the Government of Manipur fully responsible for the prevailing sense of insecurity along the Indo-Myanmar border. The repeated failure to secure the porous border and protect Indian citizens living in these frontier areas is unacceptable and amounts to a serious dereliction of constitutional duty.”

We strongly demand:

-Immediate and transparent investigation into the cross-border attack and the alleged lapses on the part of the security forces. -Deployment of adequate additional State forces to secure the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district and provide full-proof protection to the affected villages.

-Swift rehabilitation and compensation to all affected families whose houses were destroyed and properties looted.

-Concrete diplomatic and security measures with Myanmar to prevent recurrence of such cross-border aggressions.

-A clear public statement from the Government of India on the steps being taken to safeguard Indegenous sovereignty and the lives of citizens in the border areas.

“The Eastern Tangkhul Student Union of Manipur stands in complete solidarity with the people of Choro, Wanglee, Namlee and all Tangkhul Naga border villages. We will continue to raise our voice until justice is delivered and the safety and dignity of our border brethren are fully restored. We appeal to all democratic forces, civil society organisations, and concerned citizens to unite in condemning this external aggression on our soil” added the statement issued by the Publicity & Information, Zingsho Katamnao Long, Kamjong, Manipur.
