The District Administration of Ukhrul has laid out a plan to repair and renovate 300km of rural roads before Christmas. The District Administration has appealed to the Civil Society Organisations, Village Development Committees, and people of Ukhrul to participate wholeheartedly in making the mission a success.

“As we strive to unlock the full potential of our district, we recognize that connectivity is a crucial factor in driving development. Unfortunately, many parts of our district face significant challenges in this regard, hindering our progress” stated Asish Das (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul in his letter.

The letter continues, “to address this, the District Administration proposes to repair or renovate 300 kilometres of road under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). This initiative aims to improve connectivity, boost economic activity, and enhance the overall quality of life in our district.

“We request each Village Development Committee (VDC) to prioritize the repair/renovation of at least 2 kilometres of road in their respective villages. We urge VDCs to work closely with their respective Block Development Officers (BDOs) to select the stretches that require immediate attention.

“The renovation of 300 kilometres of roads will be a massive transformation for our district, and we believe that this initiative will be a significant step towards unlocking Ukhrul’s potential. We envision this as the first step in a series of efforts to drive development and growth in our district.”

The letter concluded with an appeal ” to every VDC, community member, and stakeholder to participate wholeheartedly in this mission. Let’s work together to complete this project before Christmas and pave the way for a brighter future for our district. Let this be the first step for many more such initiatives to come.”

Asish Das informed Rural Post that “the repairing and renovation of the road is to welcome everyone coming home during Christmas. Let the work be done by the villagers and let them get the wages too”.
