The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) vehemently condemns the ambush carried out against the troops of Assam Rifles, which resulted in killing of two personnel by unidentified miscreants near Lungshang River along the National Highway 202 at about 1.45 PM on the 6th of July 2026.

In the unfortunate incident on Monday, the deceased jawans belong to 40 Assam Rifles unit of Shangshak and have been identified as Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havaldar Chandra Mohan Singh.

The Tangkhul community, while expressing grief and discontentment over the fateful event, convey its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the two para-military forces.

In times of fragile and volatile situation prevailing in Manipur, the incident today is considered as a matter of grave concern. The deadly ambush has seriously jeopardised the efforts of the Tangkhul civil society organisations (CSOs) towards the restoration of peace and normalcy in the strife-torn State.

Meanwhile, the TNL Working Committee apprises the concerned authorities to immediately set up an enquiry into the matter and find out the responsible party involved in today’s happening. That, as no group has claimed responsibility for the ambush so far, there are certain elements attempting to polarise the situation by indulging in speculation and blame-game. It is worthwhile to mention that such move could sabotage the hard-earned atmosphere of understanding, tolerance and respect established among the sections of society.
