The Mongkot Chepu Village Authority strongly condemns a serious and alarming incident that occurred on 20 April 2026 at approximately 5:30 PM, during an ongoing village authority meeting at the residence of the Chief of Mongkot Chepu.

The statement issued by the Mongkot Chepu Village Authority reads, “an unprovoked single round of gunfire-believed to have been fired from the vicinity of Litan Police Station-struck the window of the durbar hall, penetrated through it, and hit the opposite wall, posing a direct and life-threatening danger to those present.

“This is not an isolated incident. There have been repeated instances of bullets fired from the vicinity of Litan Police Station striking residential areas in Mongkot Chepu, raising serious concerns about public safety and the functioning of the police.

“The Village Authority expresses deep concern over reports suggesting that Tangkhul militant elements may be operating in the area and calls upon Litan Police to act with full integrity, neutrality, and transparency. Immediate and impartial action must be taken to ensure that no unlawful groups are allowed to function or receive any form of protection.

“In light of this grave incident and the recurring threats to civilian safety, the Mongkot Chepu Village Authority calls for the removal of Litan Police Station in its current form and the deployment of central security forces in its place.

“The Village Authority further demands a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident and urges the concerned authorities to take swift and decisive action to prevent any recurrence.

“The government shall be held responsible for any retaliation imposed on us- retaliation for defence” stated the statement isued by the Village Authority, Mongkot Chepu
