The Global Naga Forum (GNF) mourns the passing of Gen (Rtd) Thinoselie M. Keyho, who departed this life on 29 October 2026. “With his death, the Naga people have lost an exemplary leader whose life was marked by commitment, perseverance, and an unwavering devotion to Naga nationalism” stated GNF.
The condolence message reads, “at a time when leadership is too often associated with status rather than service, self-advancement rather than self-giving, and power rather than responsibility, Gen. Thinoselie’s life offers a compelling reminder of what principled leadership truly means. He did not seek to make leadership a means of personal recognition; he understood it as a duty that demanded sacrifice, courage, and fidelity to one’s convictions. Though he could have projected himself amongst the tallest Naga leaders, he chose a different style of leadership, one that is true to the culture and tradition of the Naga people.
“Gen. Thinoselie began his active service to the cause of Naga Nation in 1956 as Secretary to the Director of Intelligence, Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN/NNC) and remained committed to his national call across decades of changing challenges. Owing to his unwavering commitment and commendable leadership, he quickly rose to higher positions. His extraordinary service included missions to East Pakistan and China multiple times, as well as prison time in Tihar Jail and Shillong. He held firmly to the aspiration of Naga national pioneers and did not allow either perceived or real threats to turn him away from his convictions. In 2016, he was appointed the President of the Naga National Council and continued to hold that responsibility until his final breath.
“Throughout his life, Gen. Thinoselie kept his personal identity and interests distinct from the larger Naga national cause and other public responsibilities which included the President of Angami Public Organization. He served his community and the larger Naga community as a true Naga patriot. Though his contributions rarely received the recognition they deserved, he remained steadfast in upholding what he believed to be right and true.
“His passing is therefore not only a personal loss to those who knew and worked alongside him; it is also a moment for the Naga people to seriously reflect on the kind of leadership we need and the principles we wish to pass on to future generations. The life of late Gen. Thinoselie remind us that a people’s aspirations must be grounded in principles worthy of commitment and sacrifice.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, colleagues, and all those who shared in his long journey of service. May they find strength and comfort in the memory of his life and in the enduring significance of the cause to which he remained faithful.
“Gen. Thinoselie may be gone, but the extraordinary leadership defined by integrity, honor and commitment will continue to speak to generations to come. We honour his memory with much gratitude and respect” added the codolence message issued by Chuba Ozukum, Convenor, Global Naga Forum and Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü, Co-Convenor, Global Naga Forum.
