The Global Naga Forum (GNF) expresses its profound sorrow at the passing of Adinno Z. Phizo, President of the Naga National Council (NNC) and eldest daughter of the late A.Z. Phizo, on 8 October 2026 at Bethel Hospital, Kohima.
Adinno Z. Phizo carried a profound historical and political legacy. Following the passing of her father in 1990, she assumed the leadership of the NNC and remained steadfast in upholding the political position and aspirations of the Naga people as articulated by the Naga National Council. For more than three decades, she stood as a living link to one of the most defining chapters in the political history of the Naga people and their struggle to secure recognition from India for Nagaland as a sovereign nation.
Adinno was the epitome of a dedicated Naga nationalist, fiercely independent, remaining steadfast in her convictions till her last breadth. Having spent a significant part of her life in exile in London alongside her father, the late A.Z. Phizo, and her brother, Kevilevor Phizo, she remained deeply connected to the historical and political journey of her people. Her quiet dignity, unwavering commitment to the Naga national cause, and profound love for her people and nation will remain an enduring example for generations to come.
Whatever differences may exist within the Naga political discourse, her place in the history of the Naga national movement cannot be overlooked. The Global Naga Forum acknowledges her contribution to preserving the historical memory and political aspirations of the Naga people. Her passing marks the departure of a significant figure from a generation deeply connected to the formative years of the Naga national movement.
“GNF conveys its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, colleagues and followers of Adinno Z. Phizo. May her memory endure, and may her life of dedication and contribution to the historical and political journey of the Naga people be remembered with dignity and respect” stated the statement issued by Chuba Ozukum, Convenor, Global Naga Forum.
