The Poumai Naga Naotumai Me, Imphal (PNNMI) organised a solidarity prayer meeting at the JNIMS Morgue on August 16, 2026, from 11AM to 3PM, in solidarity with the six Naga civilians whose mortal remains have been lying at the morgue.

The programme was held under the theme, “But let justice roll like a river and righteousness like a never-failing stream” (Amos 5:24). The prayer meeting was part of the ongoing solidarity programme being held by Naga women at the JNIMS morgue while awaiting justice for the six deceased civilians.

Different women’s organisations from various Naga communities have been assigned a daily roster to organise prayer meetings ensuring a continuous expression of solidarity with the bereaved families and the demand for justice. The prayer meeting was attended by members of Poumai Naga Union, Imphal, M. Talitha, President, Poumai Naga Naotumai Me, Imphal (PNNMI) who moderated the programme, Rokhu D, President, Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me, Imphal(PNTMI), Thilu Lanamai, President, Poumai Naga Officers’ Association, Imphal(PNOAI), Rev. RL Simon, Pastor, Mao-Poumai Baptist Church Langol, Imphal, Rev. Fr. James Daihrii, CMF, Laipharok, Imphal, P.A. Graceson, Pastor Aenon Baptist Church, Imphal, Rev. H Sipri, Pastor, Poumai Baptist Church, Imphal, senior Poumai leaders, Poumai community residing in Imphal and students attended the programme. Lanjangmeilu Gangmei, President Rongmei Naga luphuam, Imphal Lungriang, Adam Dirinamai Konsakhul chairman, and womenfolk from Konsakhul were also present at the prayer meet.

A wreath laying ceremony and presentation of a photo frame in remembrance of the six deceased was held. D Tsiiny, Women Chairperson of Mao Poumai Baptist Church, Langol, D. Tsiiny, expressed solidarity with the six Naga brothers whose bodies remain in the morgue and shared in the grief of the bereaved families. Speaking at the gathering, she stressed the importance of communities coming together during times of grief and called on the people not to allow the deaths and sacrifices of the six men to be in vain. She urged the Naga community across Manipur to strengthen unity and stand together, saying that the incident should mark “the beginning, not the end”, a beginning that would inspire greater strength, unity and love among the people in honour of the lives sacrificed. She further called for collective efforts to ensure that the sacrifices of the deceased become a source of strength and solidarity for the Naga community. Concluding her message, Tsiiny prayed for justice and sought strength, comfort and peace for the bereaved families through faith in Christ. Speaking at the programme, Konsakhul Chairman D. Adam briefed the gathering on the chain of events since the abduction of Konsakhul villagers from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, including the subsequent release of the women and the eventual recovery of the mutilated remains of the six Nagas. He lamented the prolonged delay in delivering justice to the six Liangmai men, who, he said, were subjected to a brutal killing. Adam called upon the Naga people to understand the ploy of the Kukis to create division among the Naga community and to remain united in the pursuit of justice. He also urged the community to ensure that justice is delivered and that the mortal remains of the six Nagas, which have been lying at the JNIMS morgue, are handed over to their families and laid to rest at the earliest.

A Special prayer session was led by Rev. R.L Simon during which the attendees observed a minute of silence in reverence for the six deceased. Representatives of the PNU, PNOAI and PNTMI also spoke at the programme, calling for stronger bonds among the Naga communities and greater unity in the face of the prevailing situation. They urged the people to remain steadfast in their faith in God and to draw strength from one another during the time of grief. The speakers strongly condemned the brutal killing of the six Naga civilians and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, sharing in their sorrow. Affirming the Poumai community’s support, the representatives said the community stands firmly with the victims and their families and will continue to stand in solidarity with the demand for justice and accountability for the killings. Lanjangmeilu Gangmei, President, Rongmei Naga Luphuam, Imphal Lungriang, expressed gratitude to the attendees and called on the attendees to continue standing together in unity as Nagas.

Later, R. Regina Alex, Advisor, PNNMI, delivered the vote of thanks and Rev. H. Sipri closed the prayer meet session with the benediction. It may be recalled that the mortal remains of the six Nagas, who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, were recovered on June 10 and brought to the JNIMS morgue in the wee hours of June 11, at around 2 a.m. The remains have been kept at the JNIMS morgue since then. Although the mortal remains have been identified, the bereaved families have refused to claim them, maintaining their demand for justice and accountability over the deaths of the six Naga civilians.

While, the case has been taken up by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with nearly three months having passed since the recovery of the bodies, the families and the Naga community continue to wait for justice, with no conclusive resolution yet forthcoming. Meanwhile, the United Naga Council (UNC) the inter-district economic blockade based on a four-point charter of demands in connection with the incident remains in force.
