International Youth Day Celebrated At Paorei

International Youth Day Celebrated at Paorei Village, Ukhrul District on Wednesday under the theme “Role of Youth in Nation Building, Leadership and Social Development”. Organised by Paorei Youth Organisation, the programme was attended by youth from neighbouring villages.

Resource person of the day, Ringphapam Kasar President In-charge of Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) implored the youth to be the change-makers. He acknowledged Verity Longleng as a mentor, whose guidance and example inspire his leadership journey.

Ringphapam Kasar stated that “to be a change maker, we must honestly examine our contribution to society.” Kasar also calls for standing up against social challenges, including drug abuse,, discrimination and violence. He stated that lack of quality education, social injustice and conflict have detrimental from progress. Young have a greater responsibility in a society affected by conflict. We should encourage and promote dialogue, understanding, tolerance, and reconciliation and reject hatred and revenge.

Ringphapam Kasar implored the youth to be a bridge and not a wall. To connect the divided communities and help in promoting unity instead of division. To work toward lasting peace and reconciliation. He also calls for corrective measures and takes responsibility and lead instead of waiting for others to act. Bring positive changes in the village, schools and strengthen the communities. He stated that leadership is not only a position or title but true leadership demonstrates through service and action.

As a way forward, he calls upon the youth to foster unity, peace and love. To shift from followers to change-makers, from critics to problem-solvers, and from division to unity.

Headman of Phungcham, Tuireising Horam lauded the initiative of Paorei Youth Organisation. He appeals to the youth to unite and strive together for a better tomorrow.

President of Paorei Youth Organisation, Somichan Vashum expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the participants for making the event a successful one.

The programme was also attended by youth from Phungcham and Varangalai among others.
