MLA of 54-Nungba Assembly Constituency, Dinganglung Gangmei, IAS (Retd.), Chairman of the Hill Areas Committee made a fervent appeal to the centre leadership to disarm the people if we are to have lasting peace in Manipur.

“I appeal to all the decision makers, the centre leaders and Hon’ble Governor if we want lasting peace in Manipur, we need to disarm the people. All those looted arms need to be recovered. When we allow certain communities to keep arms and when Nagas are not a part of that, Naga people are feeling insecure. It’s been two years. How can we allow them to keep arms with them. Just because Naga people are peace loving doesn’t mean that, we are not afraid of those arms. Yes, history has taught us since 1917, how all those arms of the British were used against us. As a people representative, I appeal this on behalf of my people, my people want peace. We don’t want violence. We are on the side of peace.” Gangmei stated this during the occasion of the 94th Martyrdom Day of Haipou Jadonang on 29 August, 2025 at Nungba Headquarters, Noney District, Manipur.
