Kukis Halt Vehicles Along The Imphal-Ukhrul NH-202, Loot Belongings On Broad Daylight

The Working Committee TNL has accused the Kukis of confiscating belongings from travellers at National Highway 202 on Monday in full presence of Security Forces deployed at the highway.

The statement issued by the Media Cell, Working Committee, TNL stated that “on the 27th of July 2026, the commercial and private vehicles plying along the Ukhrul-Imphal National Highway 202 with security escort were forcefully halted and confiscated their belongings at Shangkai Kuki village and Mahadev hill at around 09:15AM by the Kuki villagers in collusion with their militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO) Agreement. All these illegal activities were brazenly. carried out in full presence of security forces deployed on Reconnaissance and Observation Post (ROP) duty.

“More than 40 commercial and private vehicles were accosted at the two specified locations by the Kukis in the name of enforcing illegal “Counter Economic Blockade,” which was announced by the self-styled Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul with effect from the midnight of 26 July 2026. The belongings including valuable documents, cash, clothes and groceries were forcefully pillaged and burned, while others were taken away by the looting Kukis.

“Indeed, it is totally unfortunate to witness such a provocative and detestable act once again being committed by the migrant Kukis, who ignited the prevailing conflict against the Nagas and are now bearing the brunt of economic sufferings. However, the present condition of the Kukis is a self-inflicted situation and there is none to blame for it. It is an irrefutable reality that the Kukis survive in the ancestral land and at the mercy of the Nagas. Had the Kukis submitted and begged the Nagas to relieve their hunger, we could have willingly extended ample assistance on humanitarian ground and as a fellow Christian community. Instead, the KCSOWC had imposed a “counter blockade” against the Tangkhul Nagas, which is no less considered as a challenge to our land and absolute rights. Therefore, it is asserted herein that the counter blockade along the NH-202 must be withdrawn at the earliest possibility.”

The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) strongly condemns and takes serious exception of the shameless and marauding Kukis, who are resorting to highway robbery in broad daylight and forfeiting all human civilities. In view of the circumstances, we are constrained to raise the following pertinent questions against the State Police, Central Security Forces, District Administration and the State Government:

1. Why the Security Forces deployed as an escort party and on ROP duty were not able to render effective safety and security for the commuters and their properties?

2. Why the Security Forces present on the spot remain mere spectators to the whole affairs of the Kuki’s act of stopping the vehicles, pillaging and burning the belongings?

3. What preventive measure had the District Administration taken after the Kukis announced the “Counter Economic Blockade” by the Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul?

4. Why the State Government refuses to take action against the illegal and self-styled Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul after it had committed a series of crimes along the NH-202?

5. Why the State Government still remain silent on the general public demand for abrogation of the SoO Agreement with the criminal and terror Kuki militant group?
