Tangkhul Community Condemns, Mourns & Demands Justice For The Slain Liangmei Brothers

The Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) shares its profound grief and deep anguish over the barbaric massacre of our six (6) innocent Liangmai Naga brothers who were abducted on the 13th of May 2026 by Kuki narco-terrorists at Leilon Vaiphei Village, Kangpokpi. Tangkhul Nagas to observe a candlelight vigil on the 13 of June 2026 from 6:00 PM at the Ukhrul Headquarters Ground, Wino Bazaar.

The TNL Working Committee stated that “words fall short to convey our disgust on such inhumane acts committed by the Kuki narco-terrorists. The lives of our six (6) innocent Liangmai Naga brothers were snatched away in front of the whole world in spite of the fact that the Nagas had released the 14 Kuki detainees safe and sound. Our good faith has been returned with a spit on our face.

“For the Nagas across the world, it was a sad fateful day that we are left with the irreplaceable loss of two Church leaders, a father, a brother, a son and a grandson of the Nagas at large. The Tangkhul Naga community joins the grieving families of our slain Liangmai brothers and conveys our solidarity at this difficult time. We also extend our unfaltering support to the families, and shall stand with you till justice is delivered for this inhumane act of terrorism committed by the Kuki narco-terrorists.”

The Working Committee of the TNL has also questioned the honesty and integrity of the State and the Central government in this highly vexed matter. “For 26 days, the search operation conducted by the State and the Central forces for the missing Liangmai Nagas remained a futile exercise. However, just 24 hours after the safe release of the 14 Kuki detainees, the dismembered bodies of the six (6) missing Nagas surfaced in a questionable manner.

“All these point to an irrefutable fact that both the State and Central government were well aware of the fate of the six (6) missing Liangmai Nagas from day one. And while the inhumane deed of murdering and decapitating the Liangmai Nagas was carried out by Kuki narco-terrorists, it was the State and the Central government who held the dead bodies hostage. The act of holding dead bodies hostage is a gross violation of human rights and international law under the Geneva Convention.

“Ever since the onset of the conflict, we have reiterated time and again that both the State and the Central government have been in collusion with the Kuki narco-terrorists to undermine the Nagas. The many instances that have occurred in the past few months, coupled with the latest incident of holding the dead bodies of the six (6) Liangmai Nagas stand as indisputable evidence.”

As such, with reference to the memorandum that was submitted by the Tangkhul CSOs to various stakeholders of the nation dated 26th May 2026, we are constrained to place the following charter of demands to the State and Central government. Only the unconditional fulfillment of this charter of demands will show that the State and Central government are earnest about bringing justice and restoring peace;

CHARTER OF DEMANDS:

1. Immediate abrogation of Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact with the various Kuki militant groups.

2. Immediate declaration of Kuki National Front Presidential (KNF-P) outfit as a terrorist organization.

3. Immediate dismissal of Mrs. Nemcha Kipgen from the chair of Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, as being the legal wife of Mr. Semtinthang @ Thangboi Kipgen, Chairman of Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P) and the United People’s Front (UPF), an umbrella of different armed Kuki militant groups under SoO agreement, who is complicit in the murder of the six (6) Liangmai Naga civilians.

4. Immediate arrest of those cadres of KNF-P involved in the abduction of 18 Naga civilians on the 13 of May 2026 at Leilon Vaiphei village and subsequent murder of six (6) of them; and also for the targeted ambush and murder of Mr. Wilson Thanga Chiru at Joujangtek on the same day. Further, we demand for immediate arrest of Mr. Lalboi Vaiphei, Chief of Leilon Vaiphei village and other individuals involved in the abduction of the Naga civilians.

5. Immediate arrest of the Kuki militants responsible for the killing of a village guard Chunjanglung Panmei (57) at Pongringlong Part-1, a Rongmei Naga village near Tupul under Noney District, Manipur on the 8th of June 2026.

“At such a time, the Tangkhul Naga community also beseeches the Naga community at large to maintain restraint and not to act with clouded judgment. It is the plan of our adversaries to further cause division and unrest among ourselves. We should not fall into such schemes” added the statement of Working Committee of the TNL.

The Working Committee of the TNL has also herfervently calls upon all Tangkhul Nagas to observe a candlelight vigil on the 13 of June from 6:00 PM. In Ukhrul, the candlelight vigil will be conducted at the Ukhrul Headquarters Ground, Wino Bazaar.
