The District Administration in collaboration with Zonal Education Office- Ukhrul ICDS Cell- Ukhrul, One Stop Centre- Ukhrul, Mera Yuva Bharat- Ukhrul and District Youth Affairs and Sports Office- Ukhrul observed International Women’s Day at DRDA Hall, Ukhrul.

Celebrated under the theme “Give To Gain – Empowering Women Through Sports”, the celebration was a culmination of series’ of events starting from 5 March 2026.

Speaking at the occasion, Asish Das (IAS) Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul stated that, “the day is more special because all the four women who have made significant influence in my life, my career to reach where I am today are right here with me in this celebration.”

“Women here are relatively empowered. They have more freedom and freedom to choose their education, their career and their profession. Many things are there. But there are certain lacunae where they don’t have the equal inheritance rights as with the man. And still women are the driving force of this place, but not recognized. The decision is.taken by somebody and the woman does not have the agency, agency means the authority to take decisions for themselves. Let me be very clear, if Ukhrul is developed, it is only women driven. It is not going to happen otherwise. If it is to be a male driven development, Ukhrul would have been developed much much earlier. Now everybody is waiting for you, you have to take the lead. You have to take this place to the next level. Bring some change and go forward. I wish the women of Ukhrul district a bright future ahead” added Asish Das.

Asih Das gave away the prizes to the winners of 6-A-Side (Girls) School Football Tournament, essay writing competition, painting competition and athletics.

In the Essay writing competition (Class VII-VIII category) on the topic “My Idea Of Women Empowerment”, Lumsem Vashi of Ukhrul Central School got the first position followed by Ramchanphi Raising of Simple Solution School and Ngamchui Sasa of Little Angels’ English School winning the second and third positions respectively.
