TNL Condemnation Against Kukis' Aggression At T. Khullen

The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) vehemently condemns the violence that broke out today at T. Khullen, which was shamelessly orchestrated by the Kukis of Changoubung village in connivance with alleged Kuki militants under the SoO pact.

The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) were peacefully carrying out the three-day total shutdown called by the United Naga Council (UNC) along the NH-2 to mourn the cold-blooded killing of two Tangkhul civilians by Kuki armed group on the 18th of April 2026 near TM Kasom, a Tangkhul Naga village in Ukhrul district.

However, in the early hours of Tuesday, Kangpokpi Police reportedly arrived at the UNC check post in T Khullen and attempted to arrest one of the volunteers while intimidating the others by loading their assault rifles. In this wake, some unruly Kuki miscreants, emboldened by the biased act of the State Police, resorted to provoking the volunteers in an advertent attempt to disturb the shutdown and started removing the barricade along the National Highway. Repeated provocation from these individuals reportedly led to a violent physical violence, where the Kukis started pelting stones at the Naga volunteers, injuring many civilians while also causing damage to two vehicles; a Scorpio belonging to the SDSA and an alto car belonging to the Naga community.

In the violence that ensued, alleged Kuki militants fired rounds of automatic rifles at the Naga volunteers in front of the State Police team and the Central Security Forces. But instead of ensuring the safety of the civilians, the State and Central Forces reportedly started firing canisters of tear gas and blank fires towards the Naga volunteers. Meanwhile, the Kuki perpetrators and alleged Kuki Militants were allowed to run scot free. It is appalling to witness such exhibition of leniency and biasness by the State and Central forces towards the Kukis in every conflict and raises a disturbing question on whether they can maintain neutrality in the war-torn state. Without neutrality from the State and Central forces, restoration of peace and normalcy remains a far cry and empty rhetorics by the State actors.

“The Working Committee of the TNL demands the State Government to immediately identify and book the individuals responsible for starting the violence at T. Khullen” added the statement issued by the Media Cell Working Committee,Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL)
