The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum addressed to Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India in the matter relating to safe release of the 6 Naga innocent hostages and justice for the killing of Wilson Thanga, Chiru by Kuki SoO Group Militant
The memorandum was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati District, Manipur on 20th May, 2026.
The memorandum reads, “we, the Naga Women’s Union, is writing to you in good faith that your leadership is chosen by the sovereign God with the capacity to do good and great things for all who appeal to your esteemed office.
“As you are aware, continued aggressions from Kukis has left Manipur in turmoil where lives and the economy has come to a standstill for thousands of families and when Manipur is affected, it impacts the region and also the corridor of India to the East and your office should be concerned.
“We have many issues that demand your personal consideration but today we seek your attention to an emergency and critical matter; for the safe release of six Naga men who were among the eighteen (18) Nagas including a two-year-old abducted by SoO Kuki militants on May 13, 2026 at Leilon Vaiphei Village, under Sapermeina police Station while they were traveling to attend a wedding.
“While fourteen of them were released on May 15, 2026 in an exchange, we are disturbed with the denial of responsibility by the Kuki organizations and people regarding the lives of the six Naga men namely:
1. Rev. Dr. Manu Thiumai
2. Pastor Henpibou
3. Phenrongwibou
4. Phenringlungbou
5. Dilip
6. Kaliwangbou
And, the whereabouts and safety of the remaining six male hostages remains unknown till date.
“As a matter of fact, the abduction of 18 innocent Naga civilians, including women, minor child and Pastors at Leilon Vaiphei, a Kuki village which occurred on May 13, 2026 between approximately 10:30 hrs and 10:50 hrs at Leilon vaiphei Village under Sapermeina Police Station was carried out by the Kuki militants in collusion with Mr. Lalboi, Chief of Leilon Vaiphei in the broad daylight. That, the Kuki can not run away from all the facts and living witness on the scene and the material time when 18 innocent Naga civilians including men, women and married couples were taken hostage together at Leilon Vaiphei village,. The entire incident was witnessed by surviving victims and co-passengers who witnessed the 6 male hostages being violently dragged out of vehicles in front of their wives, children and fellow civilians. It is an undeniable fact.
“We appeal to you and your good office to immediately investigate into the matter and release our men to prevent further escalation of violence in the state.
“We, as Naga women have been supporting all forms of and peace initiatives and processes but today, we are compelled to demand the Abrogation of the SoO (Suspension of Operations) agreements with the Kuki militant groups.
“SoO has allowed them to operate like terrorists in our land and rob us of hard-earned peace we continue to uphold despite its fragility. Series of unfolding undeniable incidents and evidences have testified that, SoO is being given the license to use sophisticated arms and weapons with impunity to terrorize not only the Nagas but the Meiteis and their own public too.
“We seek restoration of peace and normalcy in our land before more lives are lost. Our youths are seething in anger seeing the land being destroyed and your intervention willnchange the situation for all to enjoy peace and prosperity in our land.
“We demand to our Hon’ble Prime Minister to take immediate action:
1. The immediate release and safety of the 6 Naga hostages.
2. Arrest and prosecute all individuals and groups involved in hostage-taking and killings.
3. Deliver justice for Mr. Wilson Thanga, Dolang village.
4. Ensure welfare, rehabilitation, and protection of the released women hostages.
5. Abrogate the SoO agreement with militant groups involved in terrorism and violence.
6. Strengthening of State forces to secure the citizens of Manipur.
7. Restore peace, justice, and security in the affected Naga areas.
“We hope that the Government of India will act with urgency and uphold justice, human dignity, and the rule of law” stated the memorandum signed by A. Hoibila, General Secretary, NWU and CH. Priscilla Thiumai, President, NWU
