The Liangmai Naga Council Manipur has strongly condemned the excessive use of force by Rapid Action Force (RAF) and other security personnel against peaceful protestors at Namdilong Naga Village.

The press release issued by Liangmai Naga Council Manipur stated that “we vehemently condemn the indiscriminate use of tear gas and excessive force allegedly employed by the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and other security personnel against peaceful protesters at Namdilong at 12:00 pm today. If the Government had executed their responsibilities such grave incidents would not have happened. Therefore our trust in the Government has completely failed.

“While people from the foothill areas and indigenous communities were exercising their legitimate democratic rights through a peaceful protest, against the brutal killing of six Naga brothers and two Langka villagers the use of force reportedly left four innocent civilians seriously injured.

The injured are:

1. Wikhonliu (36) W/o Phengrongwi (Included in six Naga Murder by Kuki Militant)

2. Wilobou (33) S/o Masingbou

3. Chunwibou S/o Paojengbou

4. Masenwangbou (44) of Makhan

“Such disproportionate action is unwarranted, reprehensible and deeply alarming.

“We demand an immediate release of all the detained villagers and immediate impartial investigation, identification of those responsible, and appropriate legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section (BNS 115,117,125) 2023. including applicable provisions concerning voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt. The authorities must ensure justice, accountability and adequate medical assistance to the injured. Peaceful dissent must not be met with coercion and brutality. We unequivocally condemn this grave incident and demand that those responsible be held accountable under the law.

“We will continue our democratic agitation until the UNC charter of demands are met” stated the press release issued by the Media Cell, Liangmai Naga Council Manipur (LNC-M).
