The condolence message issued by Ato Kilonser reads, “I am deeply pained and shocked on receiving the news of the passing of my dear friend, Dr. Niketu Iralu of Khonoma village on the 18th of August, 2026 at New Delhi.
“Dr. Iralu’s life was a testament to peace, dialogue, humility, and selfless service to the Naga nation. Calm, cheerful, and wise, he consistently chose understanding over confrontation and dialogue over division, working tirelessly to bring people together and promote the greater good. Respected across communities, nations, and walks of life, his honesty, gracious conduct, and unwavering commitment earned him the stature of a true statesman and patriot. His greatest legacy lies not only in the causes he championed, but also in the example he set: leading with conviction without arrogance, disagreeing without hostility, and serving with humility without seeking recognition.
“Khonoma village stands as a proud testament to the courage, resilience, and valor of the Naga people, renowned for its historic resistance against the mighty British Empire. Dr. Iralu’s contributions remain a source of pride and inspiration, making Khonoma not only a village of historic courage, but also celebrated for having produced a true legend of the Angami and Naga people in general.
‘He was a signatory to the 2nd Naga Consultative Meeting on strengthening the peace process at Bangkok, Thailand signed in 2002 with the Naga civil societies in carrying forward the Indo-Naga peace talk. His exceptional roles in reconciling people and political groups through various civil society bodies/forums can never be ignored but etched in Naga history.
‘I, on behalf of the NSCN/GPRN, convey my deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. I pray that the Almighty God comforts them all and gives strength and solace in the extraordinary life he had lived and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. May his soul rest in peace” stated the condolence message of Th. Muivah.
