The Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Asish Das (IAS) informed that the Juma Masjid Committee of Ukhrul has cleared the encroachment at District and Session Courts Complex, Ukhrul on their own accord on Saturday before the given deadline.

“I appreciate the Masjid Committee, Waqf Board and AMMOCOC for their positive and proactive response. The matter has been pending for almost 10 years, now the construction of the District and Session Courts Complex can be taken up smoothly. Let this be a model for others also. Its always better to remove the encroachment by themselves. It saves lot of effort, energy and avoids trauma too” stated Asish Das.

The Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, on 24 July 2025 had issued an order directing the concerned persons to remove the constructed structures and vacate the premises within 10 (ten) days from the date of issue of this order failing which eviction process will be taken up without further notice.

The clearing of encroachment reportedly followed the direction given by Waqf Board Manipur. The office of Waqf Board Manipur, Minuthong Hafiz Hatta, Imphal (Constituted by the Government of Manipur under the Waqf Act-1995) on the 29th of July 2025 had written a letter to Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrrul stating that they welcomed the step of eviction of encroachment and will removed the encroachement by themselves at Juma Masjid, Rayotang, Ukhrul, Manipur.

The letter reads “I am directed to refer to O/o The Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Orders No. 10/106/2011-DC/UKL(Pt.III)/0950 dated 24th July 2025 and this office letter of even no. dated 25th April 2025 on the above subject and to state that the Waqf Board, Manipur welcomes the step of eviction of encroachment and will coordinate and extend all possible assistance to the district authorities. The Masjid Committee will also be directed to remove the encroachments by themselves including any sort of construction before the stated timeline.”

“Waqf Board, Manipur would also like to mention that since the Masjid is a religious place and frequented by devotees to perform namaz etc., it is kindly requested that concerned officials be directed to make a survey to ensure that the masjid is accessible through an approach road. In this regard, officials of Waqf Board, Manipur along with concerned CSOs like Jamaat-Ul-Ulema may visit the premises at an early date to make a detailed assessment of the property. It would be highly appreciable if concerned officials such as SDO Ukhrul may be informed to coordinate with the visiting officials to survey/assess the property to recommend the location of an approach road” stated the letter signed by Mohd. Yasser Ahmed Khan, Chief Executive Officer, Waqf Board, Manipur.
