The PMGSY Road from Shirui to Kachouphung, a distance of 103 kilometre is in a dilapidated conditions.
Lungshim Kasar, Ex-Chairman of Sambu Raiping Long informed this correspondent that “massive landslide at the stretch of Shirui and Mapum has completely cut off the road from any vehicular movement.”
The PMGSY road from Shirui to Kachouphung is the only lifeline of 30 villages bordering Indo-Myanmar. The people from the area have been demanding for an all season-weather roads. The area has been facing lots of hardships and inconveniences due to the pathetic condition of the road especially during the rainy season.
It is worth mentioning that during the cabinet meeting held at Ukhrul on June 4, 2019, the then MLA of 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, Alfred Kanngam Arthur, has remarked that the contractor has not followed the specifications. He mentioned that a ” nose dive road” of about 3-4km stretch is being constructed along the Shirui-Kachouphung road and calls for rectification of the error and change of alignment. In regard to this, the then Chief Minister of Manipur, Biren Singh has instructed the concerned department to immediately construct motorable roads at the earliest. N Biren has stated “People are suffering, this has to be given top priority.” However, even after such instruction no rectification has been taken up and people still continue to suffer especially during the rainy season.
Lungshim Kasar added that “the construction of the road from Shirui to Kachouphung (International Border Pillar No. 121), a distance of 103 kilometres was started in 2008. 16 years have gone, we are yet to see proper connectivity of road in Sambu areas due to the negligence of the concerned authority.”
Shirui to Kachouphung is about 103 km (International Border Pillar No. 121) and Shirui to Khayang is about 90km (International Border Pillar No. 124). Lungshim Kasar, on behalf of the Sambu area bordering Indo-Myanmar, has appealed to the concerned authority for immediate intervention and necessary action.
