The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), raises serious concerns over the administrative apathy and token condemnations by the State Government of Manipur and the Government of India regarding various crimes and atrocities committed against civilians by Kuki armed militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact with the Government of India and by the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B), an unlawful armed organisation operating in Myanmar.
While expressing our deep concern over the continuing incidents of calculated attacks, the killing of innocent civilians, the burning of houses and the administrative inaction of the government despite repeated incidents carried out by Kuki armed militants, the Association once again registers its strong indignation over the incidents orchestrated and carried out by the same armed groups at Tajeikaiphun Village, Makui Thanamba Village, Makui Chamriupiu Village and Makui Thebram Village over the past days of this week, and the cold-blooded killing of four Tangkhul Naga civilians at Pilong, Kamjong, in a cross-border attack carried out by the KNA-B from Myanmar on 24th September, 2026. The calculated attacks and killing of unarmed civilians are an affront to humanity, the rule of law and every tenet of today’s civilised society. The recurrence of cross-border attacks carried out by the KNA-B at Z. Choro, Wanglee, Namlee, Huimin Thana and Kherongram is a matter of serious concern that the Government of India needs to take into it for necessary action, particularly in view of the implications for the security of land and the principles of the United Nations Charter adopted on 26 June 1945.
The Association extends its unwavering solidarity to the bereaved families of the victims of the Pilong incident and conveys its sincere condolences to Mr. Vareishum Jajo of Kingpat Khullen Village, Mr. Phami Jajo of Kangpat Khullen Village, Mr. Batterson Jajo of Kangpat Khunou, and Mr. Ningthem Kashak of Zingsui Village. Their lives lost in the incident shall not be forgotten, and their sacrifice for the Naga identity and territory shall not go in vain. May their souls rest in peace.
ANSAM once again urges the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to intervene sincerely and decisively in the ongoing violence in the State and take appropriate action against the perpetrators and Kuki armed militants, including the KNA-B, involved in crimes and atrocities against civilians, and ensure justice in the interest of all peace-loving people of the land. Justice for the victims of the Pilong incident, and for the victims of various other crimes and atrocities committed against Naga people and indigenous peoples in the State, is not merely a demand, it is an obligation of the State and Central Government.
