Two students of Asufii Christian Institute (Autonomous) represented Manipur at a national-level consultative meeting on the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), organised by UNICEF YuWaah on 4 September 2026 at New Delhi.
The participating students were Ashihrii Athihrii, 5th Semester, Department of Political Science, ACI and Athikho Esha, 5th Semester, Department of Mathematics, ACI. Their participation provided an important opportunity to bring the concerns, experiences and perspectives of young people from Manipur and the Northeast to a national platform.
The consultation brought together young people from across India, along with officials from UNICEF YuWaah and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, to discuss and provide perspectives on the design and implementation of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme
The PMIS aims to provide young people with meaningful work experience and exposure to professional environments, thereby helping them develop practical skills and improve their readiness for future employment opportunities.
A significant part of the deliberations centred on ensuring equitable access to internship opportunities for youth in rural, remote, and underserved regions. Participants discussed the importance of making internship opportunities more accessible and inclusive so that young people from different geographical and socio-economic backgrounds can benefit from such initiatives.
For ACI, the participation of its students in this national consultation is particularly significant. As a higher education institution serving students from rural and remote areas, the Institute recognises the importance of creating opportunities for young people to engage with national initiatives, contribute their perspectives and develop a broader understanding of the world of work.
The consultation also served as an important dialogue between young people, government representatives and development stakeholders. It reinforced the importance of youth participation in policy design and decision-making, particularly in initiatives intended to shape young people’s educational and professional futures.
The participation of Ashihrii Athihrii and Athikho Esha reflects the growing engagement of ACI students in national-level discussions and their willingness to contribute to conversations on youth development, employment and inclusive opportunities.
