The United Naga Council has demanded the Government to immediately stop all sorts of military aggressions in Namdilong and other Naga areas but focus its energy and resources in resolving the UNC’s charter of demands through dialogue.
Briefing the media at Senapati, AC Thotso, Member Secretary, Working Committee – United Naga Council (UNC) condemned the incident that occurred on 20 August 2026 at Namdilong, near Kanglatongbi. He informed that the excessive use of force by the security forces has caused several injuries to civilians including women. “We have received reports that several protestors were arrested and four sustained serious injuries with shelling of tear gas, even at the vicinity of private residences. Such excessive military actions which in turn has created a war-like situation is very uncalled for,” stated AC Thotso.
“The State Government has totally failed to protect the lives and properties of the Naga people. The six dead bodies of Naga civilians are still lying in the morgue. The security forces act of persecuting the Naga civilians while exercising their legitimate democratic rights through a peaceful protest is uncalled for,” added AC Thotso.
AC Thotso further stated that they were not satisfied with the investigation process. He called for expediting the process with seriousness and to deliver justice to the victims families at the earliest.
“The deployment of state forces and increasing militarization in Naga areas will never solve the problem. History has proven time and again that military solutions are not a solution at all. Instead it is time for the Government to address the core issues and settle the matter once and for all. The issue of the massacre of 6 Naga men cannot be buried under the military booths, the Government must be held accountable and justice must be delivered to the victims and the Naga people,” stated AC Thotso.
“The UNC therefore demands the Government to immediately stop all sorts of military aggressions in Namdilong areas and other Naga areas but focus its energy and resources in resolving the UNC’s charter of demands through dialogue.”
The Member Secretary of Working Committee UNC reaffirmed that they would not remain silent or remain a mute spectator to injustice and atrocities meted out to the Naga people. He also clarified that the protestors had no such plan to march towards Motbung. He termed the report as misleading and a malicious intention to spread false information. It was a peaceful protest addressed to the Government, expressing their desire for justice
The UNC while assuring their prayers and solidarity to the injured victims has appealed to all the Naga people to come together, support one another and stand together until justice is delivered.
