The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the brutal attack carried out against the Naga villagers of Langka under Kangpokpi by the armed Kuki cadres backed by the Kuki National Front (KNF) and the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), which results in killing of two (2) innocent farmers and injuring two (2) persons on the 14th of August 2026.
The statement issued by the Working Committee of TNL stated that “the dead Naga farmers have been identified as Wiriliangbou Chawang (35) and Kawidinang Abonmai (54), while the injured persons are Maliangjinang Abonmai (50) and Namthiulungbou Prinmai (45). As many 50 cadres led by KNF leader Jangboi Kipgen along with the KRA laid the ambush and launched the deadly attack on Langka village at around 7.30AM on Friday. The armed offensive today occurred days after the abandoned houses in Kailenjang were set ablaze by the Kuki themselves while falsely blaming the Nagas for the incident on the 10th of August 2026.
“Unfortunately, the cadres of KNF and KRA- both the groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Government of India are rampantly engaging in armed violence against the Nagas after the Manipur’s Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand issued a 15-day deadline for armed volunteers to surrender their weapons. All this while, the Naga civil volunteers have been maintaining restraint and restricting themselves in defending the village and protecting the innocent civilians. In this wake, the armed Kukis have been advertently and strategically taking advantage of the situation against the Nagas. It is pertinent that the State government must act upon the armed Kukis and their offending militants involved in ambush, abduction, extortion, loot, arson and killings. Why are the Kukis being given a free hand and permitted to carry out on a killing spree in the hills of Manipur?
“The Working Committee of TNL condoles the dead of Wiriliangbou Chawang and Kawidinang Abonmai, both resident of Langka Naga village, and prays for the bereaved family members in this time of great loss and sorrow. The Tangkhul community remains firm in our stand for “the Unity of the Nagas” and is ever ready to commit and sacrifice for our blood brothers and sisters in the face of our adversaries.
“In view of the developing situations, we demand that the State and Central governments must rein in and initiate necessary actions towards the Kuki militants under SoO agreement, the armed Kuki villagers, the Kuki narco-terrorists and the illegal migrants, from causing terror towards the peace loving Nagas. In case the governments failed to act responsibly in time, the ongoing conflict that has the tendency to escalate further considering the Kuki’s overture to the present crisis will be construed as a strategic political movement against the Nagas by the present political dispensation” added the statement issued by the Media Cell, Working Committee, TNL.
