In solidarity with the bereaved families and in vehement resentment against these heinous crimes, the UNC hereby declares an Emergency Total Shutdown in all Naga districts and Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur with effect from 11:00 PM of 14th August 2026 to 11:00 PM of 15th August 2026
The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the barbaric and calculated attack carried out by KNF-P Kuki militants on the sacred occasion of Naga Independence Day at Langka Naga VIllage.
In the unprovoked attack, the following Naga Village Guards were targeted:
1. Mr. Wiriliangbou Chawang, 35 years – Shot dead on the spot
2. Kawidinang Abonmai, 54 years- Succumbed to abdominal injury on the way to hospital
3. Namthiulungbou Prinmai, 45 years – Sustained groin injury
4. Maliangjinang Abonmai, 50 years – Sustained chest & arm injury
The UNC stated that “this act of violence on Naga Independence Day is a direct challenge to the Naga people, our identity, and our right to self-determination.”
The UNC also takes serious note of the recurring incidents of arson, provocation and obstruction reported in the region in recent days, including the 11th August attack on Tokpa Naga Village where at least 10 houses were reportedly set ablaze.
UNC further note with concern the questions raised regarding the Kailenjang incident and the obstruction of security forces and goodwill missions. Such acts are deliberate attempts to create conflict, confusion and fear among the people.
UNC strongly denounce all acts of violence, arson and on-purpose provocation. The competent authorities must conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into all these incidents, identify the actual perpetrators and take appropriate legal action without delay.

During the shutdown period:
1. All shops, business establishments, offices, institutions and non-essential activities shall remain closed.
2. Emergency services including medical, fire, and other essential services shall be exempted.
3. The public is urged to extend full cooperation and observe the shutdown in a disciplined and peaceful manner.
“The UNC appeals to all Naga citizens to remain calm, united, and peaceful. Let it be clear, the Naga people will not be misled by unverified narratives or sensational allegations. We have exercised maximum restraint, but we will not remain silent in the face of hostility and attacks on our people” stated the press release issued by James Hau, Information and Publicity Secretary, United Naga Council (UNC.
In support of the emergency total shutdown declared by the United Naga Council, the Tangkhul Naga Long has informed the general public that the shutdown should strictly be observed within the jurisdictions of the Tangkhul Naga Long.
The total shutdown shall commence at 11:00 pm of 14th August, 2026 and end at 11:00 pm of 15 August, 2026, in protest against the barbaric and calculated attack carried out by KNF-P Kuki militants targeting Naga Village Guards on the sacred occasion of Naga Independence Day.
“Emergency services including medical, fire, and other essential services shall be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown” stated the statement issued by Thanreingam Muivah, Secretary, Tangkhul Naga Long.
