Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has outrightly condemned the excesses and harassments being meted out by the Indian security forces against the innocent Naga civilians. The Working Committee of TNL warns of serious civil resistance movement should our people continue.to be pushed under the oppressive arms of the tyrant political masters of New Delhi.
The press statement issued by the Media Cell, Working Committee, TNL stated that “a combined Indian Security Forces had illegally nabbed four (4) innocent civilian cultivators, harassed and detained villagers including women and children of Hungpung on prima facie at the paddy-field site adjacent to Thoubal River of Ukhrul District in the late afternoon on the 25th of July 2026. The arrested men were later whisked away in a Casspir vehicle enroute to Imphal before finally being halted at around 6.30PM by the vigilant Tangkhul Naga villagers at Leingangching (Laho) near Litan Police Station.
“The four innocent persons of Hungpung village have been identified as Shomi Shokchui (38), KSY. Paul (28), Khuirami KSV (36) and Hungreithei Kasomva (39). These civilians were forcefully nabbed while working in the paddy fields and falsely charged as suspected militants by the combined team of security forces led by the troop of 40 Assam Rifles. The Hungpung villagers were later released and handed over to Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) through the Chairman of Leingangching village. The safe release was facilitated after a team of the Tangkhul Naga CSOs held a discussion and a bilateral understanding was finally reached with Brigadier. Amit Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Assam Rifles, 10 Sector, Somsai.
“In this regard, the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long outrightly condemns the excesses and harassments being meted out by the Indian security forces against the innocent Naga civilians. The fragile peace in our land after signing the Indo-Naga Ceasefire Agreement in 1997 is now getting threatened and disturbed first, by the migrant Kukis, and later, by the Indian security forces. The prevailing lawlessness created under the shadow of AFSPA (1958) has brought back the horrific images of fear, agony, bloodshed, detention and killings long suffered by the Nagas.
“The Saturday’s arrest of Hungpung civilians occurred days after the incident at Sharkaphung village on the 14th of July 2026, where four civil defence volunteers were forcefully captured and charge-sheeted at Imphal. The repeated harassment and random arrest carried out against the innocent people is clearly indicative that the Indian security forces are engineering a law and order situation to derail the hard earned peace of the Nagas.
‘The Tangkhul Nagas are minutely watching all the vexed developing trends, and our tolerance has been tried and tested beyond the permissible limit.
