The Kuki militants camping illegally in the forest area between Thingphai and C. Khollen Kuki villages attacked Tanrui Village on the night of 3 July 2026.

In a press statement issued by the Media Cell, Tanrui (Leisan) Village stated that “the armed Kuki militants camping opposite to Leisan (Tanrui) High School across the Iril river started firing towards the village at around 7:15 PM and continued unabated till around 9:30 PM. The Kuki militants had resorted to such actions in the past on several occasions.

“Ironically, a CRPF outpost has been stationed at Thingphai Kuki village since the outbreak of the Kuki-Naga conflict following the Litan incident. In spite of the fact that security forces are stationed at close proximity to the illegal camp, the camp continues to operate actively as a base for their nefarious militant agenda. The firing also comes at a moment when some personnel of Senapati Police were at Tanrui Village in transit. The entire circumstances under which the aggression of the kuki militants was perpetrated clearly indicate their outright disregard for the security forces and the rule of law.

“Such act of provocative aggression by these Kuki militants is gradually developing into a larger pattern of unfettered terrorism, lawlessness and war mongering, especially in absence of any decisive action against these disruptive elements by the central and state security forces and the state government, despite repeated calls from the people of Tanrui Village to take adequate security measures against them. The apathy of the state government towards the lives and safety of the people of Tanrui village is profoundly distressing. The failure of the security forces and the state government is emboldening the Kuki militants to continue perpetrating such acts of terror.

“Even as we, the people of Tanrui village, denounce in no uncertain terms, the repeated terrorism of the kuki militants, we once again implore the state government to take up its mandated mantle and assume immediate responsibility to protect the lives of the people of Tanrui village and stop these unruly elements from perpetuating their agenda of terror against its people” added the statement issued by the Media Cell of Tanrui (Leisan) Village.
