Workshop on Limbic System Underway at St. Joseph College, Ukhrul

A five-day workshop on “Genesis Change Group: Heart of the Brain (Limbic System)” is currently underway at St. Joseph College, Ukhrul with the blessings of principal Dr. Fr. Parvis John. The program, organized by the Department of Social Work and the Red Ribbon Club of the college, is being conducted with the support of the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), Ukhrul. The workshop began on March 9 and will continue until March 13, 2026.

The inaugural program was compered by Thotchonphi Muinao, a third-year BSW student. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sword R. Shimray, Head of the Department of Social Work. Short speeches were also delivered by Dr. Yuithingla Vashum, District AIDS Control Officer of Ukhrul and Kamjong District, and Mayola N, Certified Addiction Counsellor and Proprietor of Hope and Healing Rehabilitation Centre, Khuilingtang Hungpung.

The team is being led by Mayola N and Moa Jamir from the Addictive Behavior Counselling School of the Youth With A Mission (YWAM). The resource persons include members coming from Nepal, Nagaland, Dehradun and Mumbai, bringing diverse experiences and perspectives to the workshop.

The workshop aims to help participants understand the limbic system, often referred to as the emotional center of the brain, and its role in emotions, memory, motivation, and behaviour. The sessions also highlight the connection between brain functions and addictive behaviour, emphasizing the importance of neuroscience in counselling and addiction recovery.

More than 60 participants are attending the workshop, making the sessions interactive and engaging. The ongoing program is expected to provide valuable insights into emotional regulation, addiction, and mental health awareness.
