Around 30 Students Admitted To Ukhrul Hospital After Consuming "Mauli"

In an unfortunate incident, around 30 students from KTL Excel Higher Secondary School were admitted to the Ukhrul District Hospital in the late evening after consuming “Mauli“. A suspected case of food contamination.

In another incident, around 52 students were given first aid by the nurse at Sinakeithei PHSC, when the students complained of nausea headache and uneasiness after consuming Mauli on Thursday.

Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Ukhrul, Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan informed Rural Post that “the admitted patients complain of nausea, headache, uneasiness, dysentery, diarrhea and abdominal pain. They are undergoing medical treatment for further observation.”

The product “MAULI” has FSSAI No. 10324002000070 and was manufactured and packed by Global Tradelink Private Limited, Brahmaputra Industrial Park, Gauripur Amigaon, District Kamrup, Guwahati-781030. Customer Care No. +918638011948. With their website www.maulifood.in and email address info@maulifood.in.

The ingredients as per the printing on the package reads maize breed (bread), salt, spices etc.

OC of Ukhrul Police Station, Inspector W. Marchang informed that Donald Kashung, a small vendor selling eatables, mainly to schoolchildren near KTL Excel Higher Secondary School, Ukhrul has submitted a written complaint and report to the Officer-in-Charge Ukhrul Police Station, Ukhrul District, Manipur. Accordingly enquiry has been initiated by the police.

The report states, “I wish to report an unfortunate incident concerning suspected food contamination that occurred on 06/11/2025. I wish to state that I had purchased the said eatables from a retailer shop named “Variety Dukan,” located at Viewland Bazar, Ukhrul, on 05/11/2025. I was unaware of any possible contamination or defect in the product. I am deeply concerned about the wellbeing of the students and other children who may be at risk if the same items are being sold elsewhere.”

He has also appealed for investigating the matter to determine the actual source of contamination in the product. Inform and alert other vendors who may have purchased the same eatables from the said retailer. Take necessary preventive action to stop further sale of the suspected product and identify and take appropriate measures against the responsible supplier, distributor, or manufacturer, if found at fault.

There is also a report that around 52 students at Sinakeithei were given first aid treatment by the nurse at PHSC Sinakeithei when the student complained of headache nausea and uneasiness after consuming Mauli. The Sinakeithei Student Union has seized the said items from the shop that was selling Mauli and has prohibited selling of the same in the village shop.
