Ukhrul: Destruction of Poppy Cultivation Enters Day Three

As part of the 3rd phase of poppy destruction drive, a total of 185 acres of illegal poppy cultivation was destroyed on Thursday by the combined team in two locations.

A combined team of 122 numbers of personnel consisting of Ukhrul District Police, Executive Magistrate of Kamjong District, 8 Bihar Regiment, NCB, B Coy BSF 57 Battalion, D Coy BSF 79 Battalion and Forest Department Ukhrul led by SDPO Jessami destroyed 90 acres of illegal poppy cultivation at Leingangching-Sikibung/Mapithel Hill Range.

Another team led by SDPO of Ukhrul, comprising of Ukhrul District Police, 6th Manipur Rifles, Forest Department and 18 Assam Rifles conducted poppy destruction drive at Khamasom Hill Range. The team destroyed 95 acres of illegal poppy plantation and burnt 2 huts during the operation.

No cultivator was found and no arrest was made. Both the teams seized some poppy pods for further reference and necessary FIR case will be registered accordingly. The team will continue the drive till Saturday (7 February 2026).
