Shokvao Village of Ukhrul received a recognition certificate from Hon’ble Governor of Manipur for protection of forest from forest fire through Forest Area Closure under COSFOM-KfW Project (Community Based Sustainable Forest Management for Water Resource Conservation).

Reimi Makang, Headman of Shokvao Village and Johnathan, Chairman of WRCG Shokvao received the recognition on behalf of the villager at the 76th Vana Mahotsav Festival Grand Finale held at City Convention Hall, Imphal on Monday.

A team from Ukhrul participated at the celebration led by DFO of Ukhrul, Laishram Gitla.

Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla distributed one seedling to one student from each District, a symbol of handing over the greenery to the next generation. On behalf of Ukhrul District, Leishangthem Sylvia Shimray Chanu, a Class X student from Ukhrul Central School received the seedling from the Governor.

Due to the interventions of the COSFOM Project being taken up at Ukhrul District, animals like Slow Loris, a Schedule I animal could now be seen in the Forest Area Closure of Shokvao, after a long time. Today’s acknowledgement by the Governor of Manipur will serve as an encouragement for other villages in the Ukhrul District as well.
