On the tenth death anniversary of Dr. Suniti Solomon, YRG CARE has initiated the Suniti Scholars Programme, which will support 86 young women (aged 25 or younger) from Northeast India, impacted by HIV, with everything they need to pursue higher education.
Why 86? Because had she lived, Dr. Suniti would have been 86 this year. In 2025–26, the program will empower 86 young women from Northeast India, reflecting Dr. Solomon’s age in 2025. One scholarship will be added annually (87 in 2026, 88 in 2027) to sustain her legacy.
WHAT EACH SCHOLAR RECEIVES:
• ₹1 lakh/year for educational expenses
• ₹50,000 for digital access (laptop + internet)
• Mentorship and counselling support
KEY DATES:
Applications open: August 15–25, 2025
Results announced: October 14, 2025 (Dr. Suniti’s birth anniversary)
Funds disbursed: December 1, 2025 (World AIDS Day)
WHO CAN APPLY:
Young women aged 25 years or younger, including transgender women.
APPLICANTS MUST BE EITHER:
1. Living with HIV (verified confidentially through ART centres) or
2. Affected by HIV (e.g., children of HIV-positive parents/guardians, verified by NGOs)
LOCATION:
Must be a resident of Northeast India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, or Tripura)
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Completed Grade XII for undergraduate applicants
Hold a bachelor’s degree for postgraduate applicants
Must have secured admission in an accredited educational program.
