The double standards of the Government of India: Preaching Peace to international bodies such as BRICS while suppressing the Naga nation and conspiring in Military Combat in Manipur.
While the Government of India (Gol) loudly beats the drum of peace, dialogue, and diplomatic settlement on the global stage, its failure to horor political agreements exposes a severe pattern of institutional hypocrisy.
During the recently concluded 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the Gol proudly spearheaded the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration 2026. In this document, the government committed itself to core global principles outlined in Paragraphs 11 and 12, strongly advocating for comprehensive multilateral reforms, democratic global governance, and sovereign equality, while ensuring the fair and inclusive representation of developing communities. Furthermore, under Paragraphs 23, 37, and 40 of the same declaration, the Gol expressed grave concern over armed conflicts, called for the prevention of hostilities, addressed the historical root causes of unrest, and demanded that internal and international disputes be received strictly through dialogue, consultation, and peaceful diplomacy.
However, the Goi’s international commitments stand in stark contrast to its behavior on the ground. On 3 August 2015, the Gol signed the historic Indo-Naga Framework Agreement with great fanfare, recognizing the unique history, sovereign rights, and legitimate political identity of the Naga people. Eleven years later, the Gol has deliberately frozen the implementation of this agreement. While it preaches the peaceful resolution of conflicts to the global community through the BRICS platform, it uses state power to suppress the legitimate political rights of the Nagas, choosing military solution. over sincere, honest dialogue.
This duplicity goes deeper than mere political inaction. In Manipur, the Gol has abandoned its claims of maintaining security and ensuring transparent conflict resolution. Instead, the state architecture is actively utilizing nomadic Kuki Narco-terror groups as proxy forces to launch military aggression against Naga communities. By arming and providing Icgistical support to the KNA and even collaborating with KNA(B) from across the border in Myanmar to destabilize the region, the Gol is actively fueling ethnic warfare to crush the Naga political resistance.
Preaching human rights, structural reforms, and peaceful diplomacy to international bodies like BRICS while violently crushing indigenous nations is a dangerous game. The Naga people have shown immense patience at the negotiating table since 1997. However, if the Government of India continues to drive the Nagas into a corner through military suppression and proxy warfare, it will become impossible for the Naga leadership to return to the negotiating table. Peaceful dialogue requires two honest parties; sadly, the “sons and daughters of Ahimsa” seem to have become a thing of the past. The Gol must choose between its deceptive global rhetoric and genuine political peace.
