The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has sought the intervention of the State Government to clear the National Highway 202 and ensure free movement along the Imphal-Ukhrul road. TNL has also demanded that the two vehicles, Baleno (MN06-LB1872) and Maruti Alto (MN01W-5227) which were intercepted and seized along with the passengers and their personal effects on March 11, 2026 by Kuki militants at Shangkai village under Litan Police Station, be returned immediately.
The press release stated “the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has vehemently opposed the unwarranted announcement of a total shutdown of the Imphal-Ukhrul Road by a self-styled and unlawful Kuki organisation, the so-called Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul. The bandh call on the arterial lifeline of Ukhrul and Kamjong, which connects the region to the rest of the world, is outrightly unacceptable under any terms and conditions of a civilised society. This act of the Kuki organisation also contradicts the ruling of the Supreme Court of India, which clearly stated that bandhs violate citizens’ fundamental rights to freedom of movement, liberty, and livelihood, and cause significant public and economic disruption.
“The State Government, therefore, must intervene immediately to clear National Highway 202-A and ensure free movement along the Imphal-Ukhrul Road without delay. It must also be the urgent duty of the concerned authorities to requisition additional security forces and deploy ROP on a 24×7 basis at highly sensitive areas along the road to check and control any hindrances caused to innocent commuters and transporters, and to ensure free passage along the route.”
The TNL also demands that the authorities book the so-called unlawful Kuki organisation and initiate necessary action as per the law of the land, to the extent of banning the Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul.
“Furthermore, it is demanded that the two vehicles, Baleno (MN06-LB1872) and Maruti Alto (MN01W-5227), which were intercepted and seized along with the passengers and their personal effects on March 11, 2026 by Kuki militants at Shangkai village under Litan Police Station, be returned immediately. The concerned authorities must initiate necessary measures to retrieve the illegally seized properties belonging to innocent civilians and students from the unlawful Kuki group” stated the press release issued by the Media Cell, Working Committee, TNL.
