Marking the 77th Republic Day of India, the Divisional Forest Officer of Ukhrul, Laishram Gitla unfurled the National Flag at its campus at Ukhrul Headquarters.

Speaking at the occasion, Laishram Gitla stated “today, as we gather under the shade of our magnificent hills to celebrate India’s 77th Republic Day, we do more than just salute a flag. We honor a promise—a promise made in the “Green Clause” of our Indian Constutution: the Article 51A(g) which states that it shall be the duty of every citizen of India: “To protect and improve the natural environment, including forests, lakes, rivers, and wildlife, and to have compassion for living creatures”.

“Ukhrul is not just a district; it is a sanctuary. From the majestic heights of Shirui Kashong to the dense canopies of our forests, we are the custodians of a global treasure. In 2026, we must realize that true development is impossible without Ecological Security” she added.

A Call to Action:

Let us pledge “Freedom from Environmental Degradation & Protect our Forests & Wildlife.”

To our Ukhrul People: We thank you for your partnership in protection.

To our Youth: You are the “Guardians of our Rich Forests.” Your innovation in conservation will define the next decade.

“Let us work together to ensure that the beauty of Ukhrul remains a living legacy for generations to come. Let us build a district that is not only prosperous but also green and resilient” stated Laishram Gitla.

The programme was attended by staff and officials of Divisional Forest Office of Ukhrul.
