Preshow MK Shimray, Former Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly calls for unity, promotion and preservation of culture and tradition. He stated this while attending the 58th General Conference cum Sports, Cultural and Literary Meet 2026 of the Raphei Katamnao Long held at Khamasom Walely, Ukhrul District, Manipur.

Attending the “Raphei’s Got Talent” Day 3 of the event as Chief Guest, Preshow MK Shimray in his speech expressed gratitude and extended highest respect to the RKL, Local Organising Committee and all the delegates. He lauded the initiative of the Raphei Katamnao Long and host Khamasom Walely for successfully organising the 58th edition of RKL General Conference cum Sports, Cultural and Literary Meet 2026.

In his address, Preshow MK Shimray stated, “we need to understand one another and share a platform to exhibit our talents and skills including our rich culture and vibrant tradition.”

He continued, “even in our forefathers days, Raphei is a land full of talents. We have rich folk songs, almost all the folk songs originated from Raphei. We have varied songs and dances depicting different events. We have rich and vibrant attires.

“With the coming of Christianity, we have forgotten our tradition and culture. We have abandoned our traditional folk song, folk dance, attire and practises, instead we have started imitating other cultures and ways of life. Unlike our forefathers who only consume organic foods, we have started consuming chemically adulterated foods. Let us preserve and promote our tradition, culture and indigenous games. The best product of handicrafts comes from Raphei because we have immense skill and talents. Apart from skills and talents, God really bestowed Rapheinao with good physique and good looks. There was no lack, we were blessed. We should count the blessings and learn from it to make us better.”

“God has blessed us with different talents. Let us harness it, seek out a mentor who can guide you in the right direction. Today, we are here to compete not just in games and sports but to unite us with a stronger bond. When we are united, nobody can defeat us. It is also a time to come together as one and build our community. Above all, let us not forget our God. Without Him we are nothing” stated Preshow MK Shimray.

He also stressed the need to showcase the rich culture and tradition of Raphei to the outside world through the media.

The programme witnessed displays of different skills and talents by the participants representing different villages of the Raphei area.
