The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSO) Ukhrul has expressed strong displeasure over the manner in which Litan Police Station has handled the registration of FIR related to the incident on 11 March 2026. The WCKCSO has called upon the Kangpokpi Police and concerned authorities to take immediate action and thorough investigation.
The statement issued by the Department of Information and Media WCKCSO, Ukhrul stated that “we express our strong condemnation of the manner in which Litan Police Station has handled the registration of the FIR related to the recent attack on our innocent villagers who were peacefully farming and two of the victims were repairing water pipelines at the vicinity of Thawai Kuki village. This further deepens the growing trust deficit in Ukhrul Police and raises serious concerns about justice and accountability.
“On 11/03/26, armed individuals belonging to armed Tangkhul volunteers carried out a violent attack at Thawai Kuki village, resulting in:
1) The killing of two innocent villagers while repairing water pipelines: Thenkhogin Baite of Thawai Kuki and Thangboimang Lunkim of Shangkai Village.
2) Three villagers being beaten before they escaped: Arjun Paominlal Khongsai of Mongkot Chepu, Tonggoulun Haokip of Thawai Kuki village and Khupminlen Kipgen of L Lhangjol village.
3) One villager narrowly escaped death, with six bullets fired at his legs. Letginthang Haokip of Thawai Kuki village.
4) One held hostage, beaten and later released with the intervention of the SFs and Police: Thangminlen Baite of Mongneljang village.
“Despite the gravity of this crime, Litan Police Station registered the FIR merely under sections 140/118/3(5) BNS, 18(b) ND & PS, and 25(1-C)A act added 103 BNS, which address public order and arms-related offenses. The FIR fails to include provisions for murder, attempted murder, and assault with deadly weapons (Murder: (IPC 302 or applicable equivalent, Attempt to Murder: IPC 307 or equivalent and Assault with deadly weapons: IPC 324 or equivalent), thereby undermining the seriousness of the crime and the prospects for proper investigation and justice.
“We urge the authorities to immediately amend the FIR to reflect the full severity of the offenses committed and to hold the perpetrators accountable under the law. Failure to do so risks sending a message of impunity and endangering the already volatile safety of Kuki villagers in Ukhrul District.
“We call upon the Kangpokpi Police and concerned authorities to take immediate action, ensure a thorough investigation, and restore the faith of our community in law enforcement” state the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media WCKCSO, Ukhrul.
