A glance from a distance, the mountainside appears like a green carpet dotted in pink. The pink orchid locally known as Kazingwon blooms beautifully and in abundance at the Mount Kazingmalung of Pushing Village, Kamjong District, Manipur.
The flower belongs to the Zingiberaceae family and its botanical name is called ‘Caulokaempferia secunda“
“The flower has been blooming in the mountain for a long long time, it was just a few years back that our villagers have decided to pay attention and promote eco-tourism. From this year onwards, our village has decided to celebrate the beauty of Kazingwon annually” stated Thotreingam Keitang who officially launched the programme at Mount Kazingmalung in the presence of AS. Yanglung, Headman of Pushing, elders and villagers.
The expansive Mount Kazingmalung is home to a variety of florae. Red and white rhododendrons bloom in abundance during the month of February. Come the month of May, one would find Blue Japanese Iris carpeting a vast portion of the Mount Kazingmalung.
Mount Kazingmalung is a hillock located at Pushing village in Kamjong District of Manipur which is about 40 km from Ukhrul Headquarters and about 98 km from Imphal.
