In a press release issued by Akato Swu, Secretary, Ministry of Chaplee stated that, “impersonation and identity theft is a criminal offence. and thus, this kind of crime cannot be allowed to get away without making the criminals pay what he (they) deserves.

“The Chaplee Ministry was informed of a person claiming himself as a member of NSCN/GPRN Finance Department and sometimes impersonating as Finance Secretary and threatening the businessmen in Dimapur town and Chumoukedema town using Contact Number 9362620241 (Registered by the name Benrang Rengma) and with this contact number he keeps demanding ransom money from the businessmen providing them G-Pay Number 6901043247 (Registered by the name Shamim Uddin). Some businessmen are reported to have complied to this criminal demand.

“What is significantly of deep concerned is that the image of NSCN/GPRN is being put at stake now and the name of Finance Secretary has been defamed beyond tolerance.

“To put the matter straight before the public domain, this person involved in impersonation and identity theft is asked to report in person to the Chaplee Ministry Office within the stipulated time frame of 3 (three) days counting from the publication of this statement and clarify himself his bonafide standing before the Government. Failure to abide by this directive shall invite the inevitable action leading to his apprehension and followed by severest action as demanded by the enormity of his crime”.

“What has made the matter very serious is that we have been provided with all the evidences (proofs) of this person impersonating as Finance Secretary and demanding ransom. This has to be rooted out by any means whatsoever” added the press release.
