Nilai Farm and Tea Estate is situated in the lush green hills between Talui-Halang Road, VPO Talui, Ukhrul District, Manipur. About 20 km away from Ukhrul Headquarters. Famous for its orthodox black and green tea and also a perfect place for tourists and picnickers.

Nilai Tea Estate was started in 1989 by Awo Mazachang Raikhan. The real plantation began only in the year 1991 and since then, it has become a legacy. Dream carried on by his children.

Awo Mazachang Raikhan was probably one of the most successful Tangkhulnao ever to walk on this earth. A Railway Officer who had inspired many through his exemplary life. Awo Mazachang has 6 daughters and a son. His eldest daughter Primrose Raikhan was the first IFS among Tangkhuls (Indian Foreign Service – 1976 Batch) and his second daughter Christianson Raikhan was the first woman IAS among Tangkhuls (Indian Administrative Service -1978 Batch). And his son Ngampam Raikhan was a doctor, the first Tangkhul to pass out from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Nilai Tea Estate extensively grows only Darjeeling variety. It is an arduous job that requires discipline and dedication.

BREW IT LIKE THE LOCALS

Add half a teaspoon of tea leaves per cup to boiling water. Let the tea steep for one to two minutes. Add honey, sugar, milk or lemon. Enjoy! Feel like a second cup? Just add another round of boiling water to the uncurled leaves. It’s a resource-responsible way to unwind.

The plucking season starts from March till October. Plucking is seasonal. After plucking, one has to wait for the new shoots to grow. Pruning is usually done in the winter season.

Nilai Tea Estate is a family legacy. Yet is an asset of the Tangkhul.
