Environmental Force at Grass Root Level (ENFOGAL), a grassroots environmental organisation based in Ukhrul, has received the State-Level Wildlife Protection Incentive Award 2026 in recognition of its efforts towards wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection across Ukhrul and Kamjong districts of Manipur.
The award was presented by the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, during the grand finale of the 72nd Wildlife Week Celebration 2026 at the City Convention Centre, Imphal, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Losii Dikho and PCCF & HoFF Shri Anurag Bajpai.
For nearly a decade, ENFOGAL has been working with village authorities, youth groups and local communities to protect wildlife through camera-trap monitoring, biodiversity documentation, habitat protection and conservation awareness.
A major focus of its work is the conservation of Mrs. Hume’s Pheasant (Syrmaticus humiae), locally known as Nongin, the state bird of Manipur. The organisation is also advancing community-led conservation of the Chinese Pangolin (Manis pentadactyla) in Manipur, with support from GreenHub × Royal Enfield.
The Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) supports ENFOGAL’s work on Mrs. Hume’s Pheasant and other wildlife conservation initiatives, while the Ukhrul Forest Division contributes to wildlife conservation awareness. These partnerships, together with community participation, strengthen grassroots efforts to safeguard the region’s rich biodiversity.
The award marks an important milestone in ENFOGAL’s conservation journey, recognising the dedication of its team, local communities and conservation partners. ENFOGAL remains committed to strengthening community-led conservation and protecting Manipur’s unique wildlife and natural habitats for future generations.
About ENFOGAL: Established in 2016, ENFOGAL is a youth-based environmental organisation headquartered in Greenland, Ukhrul, working on wildlife conservation, biodiversity protection, waste management, climate resilience and environmental education.
