The Maring Students’ Union (MSU) strongly condemned the reported assault on Mr. TP Kiukamlung, Officer-in-Charge of Machi Police Station and the alleged intimidation and physical assault of his escort personnel by a group of individuals at Motbung on 30th October 2026.
The statement of MSU reads, “the Union expresses its deep concern over such acts of violence against a serving police officer and his personnel. Such incidents undermine the authority of law enforcement agencies, threaten public security and further erode the trust necessary for peaceful coexistence among communities.”
The Maring Students’ Union believes that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands, obstruct the free movement of citizens or resort to violence and intimidation. Every citizen, irrespective of community or identity, deserves equal protection, dignity and the freedom to move without fear.
Further, the Union also expresses concern over the continuing reports of violence, threats, abductions and attacks affecting innocent civilians in different parts of Manipur. Such incidents only deepen mistrust, create insecurity and hamper the efforts towards restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
Therefore, the Maring Students’ Union urges the concerned authorities to conduct an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation into the Motbung incident and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible. Ensure adequate security for all civilians, particularly those travelling along vulnerable national highways and other public roads and uphold the rule of law and guarantee the unrestricted movement of citizens without intimidation or unlawful obstruction.
The Maring Students’ Union firmly believes that peace cannot be achieved through intimidation, aggression or violence. Lasting peace can only be built through mutual respect, justice, accountability and the protection of the rights and dignity of every community.
We appeal to all communities to exercise restraint, uphold humanity and refrain from actions that may further escalate tensions. We also urge the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to take appropriate steps to restore peace, security and normalcy in the state.
“Peace must prevail, justice must be upheld and the dignity of every community must be respected” added the statement issued by the Information and Publicity Cell of Maring Students’ Union.
